The Rotten Hill Cup 2025: A Charity Football Match With a Whole Lotta Heart (and Hamstrings)

Rotten Hill Cup

It’s back, The Rotten Hill Cup 2025 —and it’s bigger, bolder, and a bit more breathless (because, let’s be honest, these lads are all over 40)! The Rotten Hill Cup 2025 is set to bring football, fun, and a feel-good community vibe to Whitchurch Sports & Social Club on Sunday 4th May—and trust us, you’ll want to be there.

This isn’t your average kickabout. This is a charity football match with passion, pride, and players who’ve swapped post-match pints for deep heat and ibuprofen. It’s Overton FC vs. Whitchurch United FC, in a friendly but fiercely fought battle that raises money for a great cause and brings the whole town together.

What’s Happening on the Day?

You’ll want to get down early, because the gates open at 1:00 PM, and the atmosphere will already be buzzing.

First up at 2:00 PM, there’s a junior match—the future footy stars showing off their skills and giving it their all. If you think kids’ matches are dull, you haven’t been to one of ours. Expect mini-messi moments, proud parents, and goals galore.

Then, at 4:00 PM, the main event kicks off: the Over 40s Charity Match. This is where the magic happens. The legs might be a bit slower, the passes slightly more questionable, and the shouting louder than strictly necessary—but the heart? Absolutely massive. These lads might be a few years past their prime, but don’t count them out just yet. With community bragging rights on the line, expect big tackles, clever play, and a whole lot of laughs.

And once the football’s done? Stick around, because the fun doesn’t stop when the final whistle blows…

Evening Disco – Party Mode: Activated 🎉

At 7:00 PM, the music kicks in and the dancing (or enthusiastic shuffling) begins. Our evening disco is family-friendly, upbeat, and the perfect way to round off the day. Whether you’re throwing shapes on the dancefloor or just enjoying a drink with mates, it’s a cracking way to celebrate a great cause.

Star Guest & Live Coverage 🎙️

Overton Radio, will be covering all the action live—so even those tuning in from home will get a taste of the magic. We’re thrilled that they will be teaming up with Mike Bushell from BBC Sport who will be joining them as a special guest for all the commentary! If anyone knows how to bring the energy to a local event, it’s Mike.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss It

Let’s face it—events like this are what community spirit is all about. It’s not just about football (though there’s plenty of that). It’s about supporting local causes, cheering on familiar faces, and making memories with friends and family.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer, you might even cry (probably when someone pulls a hamstring)—but one thing’s for sure: you’ll leave with a full heart and a smile on your face.

So gather the gang, dig out your favourite scarf, and get ready for a day of football, fun, and a few dodgy knees. We’ll see you at the Rotten Hill Cup 2025—where legends live, laughter’s loud, and the cause is close to home.
