The London Marathon is one of the most iconic long-distance races in the world, attracting over 40,000 runners each year. From elite athletes to first-time marathoners, participants take on the 26.2-mile challenge, pushing their limits while raising millions for charity. This year, Whitchurch Club committee member Vinny Goodfield will be among them, running to support Children with Cancer UK—a cause that is incredibly close to his heart.
Why Vinny is Running
Every year in the UK, around 1,900 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. Although survival rates have improved significantly over the past few decades, the battle is far from over. Many children still face aggressive treatments, long hospital stays, and uncertain futures. This is exactly why Children with Cancer UK works tirelessly to fund life-saving research, support families, and raise awareness.
For Vinny, this marathon is more than just a personal challenge—it’s an opportunity to make a real difference. While the training has been tough, he knows that every mile he runs will help children fighting this terrible disease. However, he can’t do it alone. He’s asking the community to get involved and support his fundraising efforts:
“It’s a tremendous cause, and if anyone is able to donate a few pounds, I’d be really grateful. If you see me running around Whitchurch in the next few weeks, please say hello—all encouragement is gratefully received!”
